Livestream Watch Time Calculator
Estimate viewer-hours from average concurrent viewers and how long you stay live. Useful for Twitch, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, TikTok LIVE, and independent streams.
What this calculator does
Live watch time is closer to “how many people were in the room × how long the room was open” than to VOD views. Average concurrent viewers (ACV) times stream hours is the standard planning estimate for viewer-hours.
Add a stream count when you run the same format several times. Add a target when you want the concurrent audience that would hit a watch-hour goal.
Who should use it
Livestreamers planning a weekly show, a marathon, or a game-show night. For recorded videos, use the Watch Time Calculator.
How to use it
Enter average concurrent viewers (not unique viewers). Split duration into hours and minutes. Leave “number of streams” at 1 unless you are stacking identical broadcasts. Optional target watch hours returns the concurrent average you would need.
Formula
Estimated watch hours = Average concurrent viewers × Stream duration in hours × Number of streams
Required average concurrent viewers = Target watch hours / Total stream duration in hours
Worked example
A livestream with an average of 50 concurrent viewers that runs for 2 hours produces 100 estimated watch hours (viewer-hours). Two identical streams would be 200 viewer-hours.
How to read the results
Estimated watch hours is a mathematical product, not a platform report. Total streaming duration is clock time you were live, multiplied by stream count. Required concurrent viewers assumes the same duration and that concurrency stays flat.
Assumptions and platform notes
Platforms may sample concurrency, drop reconnects, or count chat-only viewers differently. YouTube Live, Facebook Live, TikTok LIVE, and Twitch do not share one watch-hour definition. Do not treat every estimated viewer-hour as eligible toward a monetization program.
Common mistakes
Using peak viewers instead of average concurrent. Using unique views as if everyone stayed the whole stream. Forgetting minutes when a stream is 1 hour 45 minutes. Assuming chat messages equal watch hours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate livestream watch hours?
Multiply average concurrent viewers by stream duration in hours. Fifty concurrent viewers for two hours is 100 viewer-hours.
Are concurrent viewers the same as total views?
No. Concurrent viewers is how many people were watching at a typical moment. Total views counts people who joined, including brief visits.
Can I plan a game-show stream with this?
Yes. Enter the hours you expect to be live and your average concurrent viewers to estimate audience-hours for that show.
